My CRT monitor is making buzzing sounds in higher resolutions

I currently run my desktop @ 1152x864. If i set it any higher, the monitor starts to make a buzzing sound, so i'm afraid to put my res higher. It's a Sony Trinitron 17" (Dell P780).

I can't remember if this occured with my old vidcard, 9800XT. I always ran that in 1024 so I don't remember. I'm currently using a BFG 6800U OC. I'll have to swap the vidcards and check later.

Any ideas? Should i be worried? Should I worry of my monitor exploding in my face? :Q

Probably just cheap/marginally defective voltage regulators in the monitor. You might be getting some sort of interference from the electron gun's control electronics. My old TV does this (and also has noticeable voltage regulation issues; the image gets significantly larger when it's really bright).

I really, REALLY doubt it's going to explode 😛. If it was new, I'd tell you to RMA the monitor. Otherwise, there's probably not much you can do, other than maybe sending it in to Sony for warranty service if they'll take it.

this is a Dell branded monitor that I got with a system quite a few years ago (~4). So, I don't think warranty will cover this...

Change your refresh rate of the monitor
Say anything from 70-85 hz.
Don't do 60 otherwise the flicker will drive you nuts
