My CRT Is Having Problems

Some weird thing has happened to my CRT:

After my brother was at the computer, in the left and right far ends of the display there have come up black bars, about a centimeter on either side.

I have tried to make the size wider through the manual adjustments buttons on the front of the display, but it won't get wider.
At the max width there are still the black bars, but previously the max settings made the desktop much wider than the display.

I also tried to reinstall the nvidia drivers (using DCpro etc), but that didn't help either.

Does anyone know what to do?

Well, yes, 1600x1200 works fine when I'm in Windows. But whenever I start a game with some other resolution like 1280x1024 (which is my CRT's "native" resolution, I used to have it and I play most of my games in that resolution), the black bars are back. This is also true for 1024x768. I'd rather not play games in resolutions lower than 1024x768, and not higher than 1280x1024 as I only got a 6800GT...

hmm... probably won't help but you could try:

1. delete video and monitor in device managers
2. reset to factory settings on monitor
3. power down and reboot to redetect video card and monitor...

😕

I guess you might as well try switching to 1280x960 instead, as that's the correct aspect ratio for a CRT anyway.

Well, my CRT's manual states that 1280x1024 is the recommended resolution.

Has the CRT's bios got screwed in some way since resetting to factory setttings doesn't reomve the black bars?

I'm getting tired of this...
