Ever since I installed win xp pro, my surround speakers don't work. I have the sb live 5.1 x-gamer card with 4.1 speakers. The only way I can get my surround speakers to work is if I manually select 4 speakers each time the computer strarts (the 4 speakers option is all ready selected, but if i re-select it, they work).....What should I do

you should check to see if the the digital sound option is checked in the sound properties. I had the same problem. The check box is hard to find. Its under some advanced buttons or something. That might help.

Have you downloaded and installed the new Live 5.1 XP drivers from Creative? If not, do so - the SBLive drivers built into XP do not provide full functionality for the Live cards, particularly in multi-speaker setups. And don't use the ones on the Windows Update site - they don't work right either (I lost my 5.1 capability with those drivers). The new drivers from Creative's web site are the ones to use.

I'm having the same problem but haven't yet tried Creative's new XP drivers. Just wanted to bump the thread to see if bullion416 got his working...

P.S. Was another symptom an inability to run the Speaker portion of the AudioHQ program? Mine "encounters an error" everytime I try it.
