I got home from work yesterday and when I was at my computer I noticed I wasn't getting sound! :(

Looks like the power supply for my Creative 5300 speaker system is bad. I checked around and can't seem to find one to replace it with. I will probably contact Creative to see if I can buy a replacement, but if it cost much at all it would be worth buying. Heck They have a refurb system for just $40.

I remember seeing Anand recommending Logitech 5.1's and am thinking about just replacing them if the price is right.
I am just using onboard (Realtek) 6ch sound from my NforceII mobo (Abit Nf7-M).
It has a toslink connector for digital sound also.

You guys running 5.1's that you think will rock for a reasonable price? (<$60US)
I really liked the rich bass response of the Creatives.

Thanks in advance for your comments! :)

I recomend the Logitech z-5300 for 111$ shipped from Amazon.com
I know that they are 51$ more than you want to spend. But they sure rock for this price.

hehe...
I couldn't go without sound.
I went and bought Creative Labs 5400's for $79.99 @ Circuit City.
After tweaking my EQ a bit they sound pretty killer! :)

Yes I think the problem is the adapter. It is listed as an ac->12Vac adapter!
I gave the speakers to my son. He is going to contact Creative to see about a replacement since I couldn't find any source online.

Personaly I'm a big fan of the Altec Lansing 251 series set of speakers if your looking for something cheap. Although if you can afford it a HT in a box in the 300-400 ish range it will blow away any Multimedia speaker system you could purchase for the PC and make your TV sound better too =)

That's not true. $500 PC MM systems rival $1000 HTIBs.

An an SRP of 500ish the Onkyo HT-S760 HTIB will destroy any MM system ever made period.... I've compared this to the Klipsch pro media 5.1 ultra system (arguably the best MM system out there) and there is no contest the HTIB destorys the MM system.

Edit: Sorry for the thread jacking :), I still think the Altec Lansing 251 system would be a good choice in your price range :)

You're alone on that one. Most articles you can find about the Promedias or Gigaworks will tell you they rival $1k htib setups. Most people tend to agree. Go ahead and factor in that any htib without at least 6 surround analog inputs is useless.

I guess we can agree to disagree, but just compare the specs between the Klipsch pro media 5.1 ultra system and the Onkyo HT-S760 HTIB and you'll see why in sound quality they just destory the Klipsch system. I've listend to both side by side and can tell you w/out question that the Onkyo system sounds much better. The highs tend to be less directional, the midrange is more pronounced and the bass is much crisper at higher volumes. There is no deneying they both sound very good, but in this case the MM system just doesn't compare. Have you listend to both the systems I listed side by side?

This thread is kinda old, but with my old 5300 series speakers I contacted Creative on there 800 number and bought a new power supply for them for $11.99 + shipping.

:)

<edit> Forgot to mention...I have also changes my habits a bit. I switch them off when not in use now.
