Is that too much? The fan is at about 4900 rpm. Is 67 hot enough to give me errors? and does running intensive apps like 3d games increase the temp of the cpu by a lot? What do i need to do? is it my fan or the thermal goop stuff?

I replaced the fan that broke a few months ago with a new hs/fan but didn't bother with the goop stuff...was taht bad?

very bad if the new hsf didn't have a thermal pad either.
and yes, that temperature is a bit too high so recheck your hsf to see that it's on correctly & apply thermal grease as required! :)

67 degrees is insanely high...did you get an amd approved HSF? Even of POS coolermaster can bring it down into the low 50's or high 40's. You're very dangerously close to roasting that bird if you are not careful..get a new HSF.

it's 67 celcius...here's what i did:

i went to some chinese computer place and asked them for a socket A hs and fan...so they sold me this one for 20, i think it's generic....

i got my roomate to take the broken one off (very difficultly, it was the monster blue one and he was straining like crazy to take it off), then i put the generic fan on it. I didn't put any thermal grease because i thought the grease from the old one would be enough...apparently it's not...

should i buy a tube of AS II and put some or get a new fan?

You need the thermal grease...that'll bring you down at LEAST 10C...probably more.

Any brand names...or identifying features on that HSF? If you dont OC and such...it'll probably be alright...but you should consider investing in a taisol (742092 or 760002)...or a globalwin WBK/CAK series...something larger and more powerful. Or...if you have money to burn...get a Swiftech MC 370 or 462a (best, but most expensive)

My Tbird hits 67c on a hot day with no stability issues. So unless you are getting errors, it's only near getting too hot. That said, if you didn't put thermal goop on, definitely do put some on.
