When I open an folder and start to scroll my CPU processes goes straight to 100% and stays there for quite awhile. What could be causing? I have a 1700+, never had this problem before. Can't really tell when it started. Thought it was just one folder thatwas like 3 gigs, but now it does it on small folders too. Then I though it was my anti-virus real protection but that wasn't it either. I am clueless now. Amy suggestions? Oh Yeah running XP Pro

Do you have a CREATIVE Audio card installed?
If so, CTHELPER is known to cause 100% CPU utilization.
Just stop the Service.

Also, you may want to give a description of your system for additional help.

Might make sure your harddrives are running in DMA mode (if they're not SATA drives). Go into device manager, go to IDE/ATAPI controllers, then go to their properties. Under the advanced tab, make sure each device is set to DMA if available and that each drive is running in DMA mode.

And welcome to the forums. :)

You probably have the folder settings set to show too much detail. Right-click on the detail tab and uncheck some of the details you have shown in each folder.
