my cpu is missing a pin

MY p4 2.4ghz cpu is missing one of the top left pins, 8th from the top. When i insert everything correctly and turn on the computer, the lights/fans all turn on but my monitor gives me a message "no signal". Everyone says it's either the mobo/bios/cpu. Though i have that missing pin, so it's probably the cpu right? Is it dead? i also read about motherboardrepair.com . If the cpu is the problem, will repairing that one missing pin probably fix the problem?

I also here this could be a problem with my Power Supply, or my mobo isn't correctly hooked up to the power. My keyboard also doesn't get power from the computer (num, cap, etc. lights dont turn on or do anything when i hit caps), also - when i start up, my mobo doesn't make any beep sounds or anything.
Also, the power connection to the mobo, the cable itself, i removed that before and i put it back in (i was trying to fit a new zalman heatsink into my case), taking the cable out and putting it back in.. could it have done something (well, trying to give any possible leads. ..yes the comp was turned off).

So i'm currently lost, i dont know whats broken or what i need to replace - and people say it could be this, that, or this, etc. Has anyone experienced these problems? What's the most possible cause? Also, i'd pay the $30 from that site to fix the missing pin, but i just dont want to waste money just yet - if that isnt the problem, or it helps nothing.

Also, if my cpu is busted and i have to buy a new p4, i would rather spend the same amount for a amd mobo/cpu combo. . I havn't been impressed my Intel lately, and i could take advantage of this situation and get a mobo/cpu, what would be a good value? I've heard the abit nf7-s are good, but which cpu?

Likely to be missing pin, use a piece of wire in the socket and see if that helps, I have used the plastic wrapped stuff they use to keep cables together (cant remember what its called).

so.. it's on the left 8 from the top? why not just say "left"?

assuming you took the triangle to be top left.. and you didn't start counting from 2. you're missing the j1 pin. you got an open circuit on chain 44.

don't use wire. the probability of it going bad is high.. if you use more then 1 strand, they could become undone and short your board.. if you don't use more then 1, the wire could stick on the corner of the pin socket when you're putting it in and bend to make a circuit with an adjacent pin.

if you're still under warranty, rma it.. if not, call intel and see if they can send u a socket pin. if they won't, then go around looking for something that you could replace it with. if worse comes to worse, use the aluminum from a can to make one :p.

Well if i have to buy a new cpu, whats the best value for the money right now for intel? or the best value for a mobo/cpu combo for amd (if i have to switch over)?

I just bought a 3.2c for $280 and I like it much better than the 3.06 I was running before. Pricewatch it and see what you can find.
I bent a pin once when I lifted the fan of cpu and it pulled the cpu out with it, but I was able to straighten it out with some small needlenose pliers. Still the chip whold not work until I fixed the pin.
