My CPU is not working properly anymore I have a Celeron2 566Mhz i was runing it @877Mhz 1.75v with stock HS&F and 1 80mm 12v FAN runing @17v(Have u ever overclocked a FAN ) blowing in to the CPU. And it worked fine for a few months. Now im getting strange errors: This program has caused an error in unknown, or kernel32.dll.... I clocked the CPU at 566Mhz default voltage and still the same thing. I formated the HDD tryd to install windows 5 times! It gived me error in the .CAB files. I stop the PC for a few hours and tryd to install win again. And it got it right this time, and the PC worked for 6 hours with no problems and the strange errors returned, also im geting a BSOD this time. Now, iafter another rest, its runing normal. I need a quick reply, because i don't know how long it will hold. I dont realy know much of CPU's, can i do something to make it run normal again? Is it sure that it's the CPU, not something else?

If i cant save the CPU i'll have to say goodbye to the RADEON thats coming. And my CPU choice is limited: P III 550, 600, 650, 700 all 100Mhz FSB(My MB supports only 100, 103, 105, 112, 124 FSB). I want to know wich i can overclock(And i want to be sure it wont go BOOM) them with stock HS&F(Im not going to use the big fan this time).

Wich is the best choice in that situation?

Thank u for rading all the BS, and thank u for any help.

2 Ideas, #1, could be the fan on the cpu is dying due to overvoltage. #2, Could be the chipset for the mobo has finally hit the point where it wants to be cooler.... it happens.

One other idea might be??? Have you changed the thermal compound lately??? The older white paste tends to dry out and loose its properties for transfering heat... Might try Artic Silver... (not an add just a suggestion).

I think it's your os also, i was running a 566 @877 on an Abit Bx6 2.0 and ran fine for month's then i started getting than danm kernel32.dll or whatever it say's , couldn't get rid of it, saved what i wanted , formatted, reinstalled Win ME and it went away :) i also tried system restore and reinstalling ME over the top of the current os, did not fix it :(

I would also ck the thermal compound and go from there :) just my 2 cent's

u might also invest in a better HS/fan for an overclocked rig :)

good luck
this is the one i just ordered, can't wait to see it !!!! putting it on a 1.2 T-Bird :)

Guy's, read my post again. I Formated, and tried to reinstall 5 times!!!

And it was the CPU. A friend gived me his Celeron 566 for $10 :D It's runing @850Mhz 1.8v. The dead one runed fine @877Mhz 1.75v With the big 80mm fan blowing on it, but this one can't, gives me a BSOD sometimes.

Thanks for the replys :)

Another vote for thermal compound renewal!
My PIII450 at 600Mhz did that too

Don'd overclock:) : it will void your warranty:
Chips are meant to run at their specified speed:
by upping your voltage your increase electromigration stress.
Besides, chips are tested using special patterns: there is
absolutely no guarantee that there would be no "silent" data
corruption due to OC. :):)

That was a great deal! $10 for a 566Mhz!
Mind you my colleague gave me his whole PII350 system because it "had gone all funny" so he went out and bought a new one (PIII833 system), he had already put the thing out for the trash when I called to ask what the problem was to help him fix it!
He said do you want it - I'll check if it is still there?
Fortunatley it was - all I did was format and re-load windows - absolutely nothing wrong with it!
He even threw it out with all the boxes and warranty cards included!

Forgot to say - it overclocked perfectly with the 133FSB setting on the motherboard to hit 466Mhz :)
At default volts too :)
