My CPU HSF (Zalman 7000B AlCu)...

Hello, I have a question: I just noticed that my CPU temp is running at around 50-51C while on idle and when I play games it goes up at ~55C. The system temp is at ~32C, but I am a little concerned. Is 55C a little to high for idle temp??? I have a Zalman 7000B AlCu HSF and heard good things about it and I am satisfied with it. But the temp is starting to give me second thoughts and should I replace it with a better one? I was going to move my tower away from my vent since it was blowing hot air into my room. This may be a dumb question, but does the environment make a difference? I am planning on moving it away from the vented area and since if that makes a difference. If not, is there a better way to cool the CPU other than my Zalman? Please no Liquid cooling responses 🙂 Thanks...

First of all, thanks for posting your case temps as well because it's a good point of reference. The delta (or difference) between the case and CPU temps shouldn't be that high and that's what I'm concerned about. However, 55C is well within the temp threshold for your processor, but for the sake of being anal, I wouldn't want the difference between the case and CPU to be more than 10º C just like the case temp shouldn't be 10º C higher than the ambient temp.

With that said, you may want to reseat your HSF and make sure you don't have too much paste on the CPU, or not enough paste, or just plain crappy paste.

firstly I assume that your not over clocking?
Secondly since I have a very similar rig My first thought was the amount of air flow thru your case?
I am running an amd 3200+ 64 bit cpu with a stock heat sink and fan.
the only major difference I see is our cases.
In looking your case up, the ones I see have one 120mm intake and one 120 mm outtake is this correct?
I bought the aspire alien case It has 2 80 mm front intake, 2 80 mm rear outtake, one 80 mm top outake, and one 80 mm side intake.
I am sitting at 30 celcius (cpu) and 24 Celsius (system) at this moment typing.
So it could be the amount of air moving through your case.

Gonna take that back I see the cooling on that dfi mb isn't the greatest either the review i saw it only came with a heatsink?
so your Zalman 7000B AlCu is definately an improvment.
No cooling for the north bridge?

I have abits kv8 max3 board so I basically got the (1)otes fan which is always twirling at over 5000 rpms,
(2)the cpu hs and fan running at about 3400 rpms, and(3) the north bridge fan which is usually also over 5000 rpms. Although I had to replace thier crappy sleve fan with a nice tho fan and hs.

So if you want better temps I would be looking at adding more airflow in case or maybe adding some NB cooling.

Yes enviroment helps also the cooler the room the better.

I would like to ask what ppl consider loading and how are they checking...current cpus and current hsf combos cannot possibly only have a 3c swing in temps with the wattage of even the athlon64 cpus...I will go look at the thermal rate of the zalman but it should be more like 10-11c if you truly were loading it at 100% for a prolonged period...maybe even more when you start stressing a lot of the components in the case and raising case air higher...meaning the cpu has to start cycling warmer and warmer air....

I noticed a few days ago that my CPU temps were a bit high. I'm getting 47-50c idle, and the high 50's after about 20 minutes 100% CPU load. My case temp is usually 25C idle and I don't remember how high it went during load.
