we don't draft people

Isn't that what its called when you are called to join the army?

yes, it is, but the draft is not in effect now. It's most likely for selective service. which is to register with the govt in case there is a draft.

Thats probably what it was then... no surprise that he read it wrong... those eastern provinces😉

Uhh Saskatchewan isn't an eastern province..

My cousin is attending school in Florida right now, and he had to apply for a Florida drivers license because they didn't want him using his Saskatchewan drivers license or something stupid like that. So he is checking his mail and he got drafted. Do they even check to make sure you are a US citizen before they try to draft you??

probably just a reminder if he WAS a citizen he needed to register, thats it, our army is all volunteer recruitment now.

Tell your cousin to report to the nearest Army Recruiter and sign whatever they put in front of him, and that will take care of things. 😉

yes thats what it was, he needs to REPORT IMMEDIATELY or face invasion by unilateral US attacks...

That's what you get thrown in jail for.
For being super fat? :Q[/quote]

From the smiley I think it's fair to suspect that the weight was a lie. If it indeed was a lie, it's one of those lies that has the nasty property of being a crime. That crime has some fun consequences such as "Failure to register or otherwise comply with the Military Selective Service Act is upon conviction, punishable by a fine of up to $250,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both. In addition, federal and certain state laws require registration as a prerequisite for obtaining student financial aid, job training, government employment, and U.S. naturalization."

Now what gets me is how stupid someone must be to brag about doing this, posting their full name and most of their address. Sure would be a shame is someone forwarded that information to Information@sss.gov or called 847-688-6888 to complain.

Then again, if he's just a FF and not a liar, then none of the above would apply.

Bill

Whats the deal with selective service? I got a letter/postcard from them asking me about my info but I did not reply back since I am not even a US citizen.

How come the government can set up a system to track all my emails and website usage, listen to my phone calls, identify me walking through an airport, et cetera, et cetera, but they need ME to send them a reply card with my name and address on it, which they mailed to me at my current address?

Whoa, you can register online now.

Hah, illegal aliens are required to register. Isn't that sort of like making up laws for them to be breaking, so when they're caught the government can just pile on charges?

Is your cousin here on a student visa? I don't know if Canadians are required to have a visa for that. If he's not, he has to register because he has set up residency here. I think that's funny. You don't even have to be an American and we'll make you fight for us or go to jail.

Damn, there's some messed up rules. If you're in the National Guard, or the military Reserves but not on active duty, you have to register. So you can be IN the Army already and be drafted instead of just being called to duty. And if you're handicapped and able to function in public WITH OR WITHOUT ASSISTANCE you have to register. So you may need constant nursing care, but as long as you can hit the button on your powered wheelchair, you could be drafted.

A friend or relative may help a disabled man fill out the registration form if he can't do it himself.

Just what I want, someone who can't even write his name and check some boxes being put in charge of defense.

I love how they try to make it seem "cool" to register. It's not cool at all. Why do they need me to register in order for them to know I can be drafted? They already KNOW I just turned 18 (well, they did when I did), they KNOW where I live, they KNOW everything about me. If they decide they need to draft, just draft from whoever's available, they don't need us registering ahead of time, and they don't need to make it impossible to do certain things if we don't register.

There is no Draft so I think maybe he was called for jury duty maybe?

speakin o the draft beers, er, yea....IF there were a draft, what would the people who get drafted do? i mean...how much can you learn in the short basic training they would provide...

the tank broke, (something about a squirrel caught in the tread), so now they are using a '86 Ford Escort

rival: by the time they start drafting, they're not worried about experience or skill. They're only interested in throwing as many men into the battle, so as many bullets and shells as possible will be hitting the enemy, and hopefully they'll run out of guys before we do. Basic training lets them learn how to handle a weapon and gets them into shape. That's all that's important in an all out war rather than a one-sided invasion.
