My copmputer BSODs or reboots when I access the CDRom, what can I do?

Everything on my computer was working fine for months regarding the CDRom. Recently, I tried a new CDFS.VXD (4.0.0.1030) file in WinME that lets you see audio tracks as .WAV files. That worked great for a few days then my computer started BSODing of rebooting when I tried to access the CDRom. Even when surfing the net is IE tried to access the CDRom it would reboot as well. I went back to what should be the WinME version of the file (4.90.0.3000) and I still get the same problems. What else can I do?

I can boot off a CD so the drive is not totally dead or anything...
