Oh I am sure this will be the average or under average around these parts in a few weeks....

I am just building this one for fun....I have no real use for it....It wil fold, do some encoding and other misc multimedia...but mainly may live a life of out of the case on the desk just trying to tweak it to the max....

Any earth shattering 3DMarks out there yet using conroes, people over there always seem to build some insane stuff with new hardware before us reg folk get our hands on them.

I hate to go off topic, and I'm sure this has been asked before but I was wondering what on earth you do with your computer that utilizes 4 cores?

The one I have now does 3d workstation graphics.....I render my designs and do animated walk-thrus and flybys.....It scales OK with 3 cores but get little gains from 4 cores...encoding is also something I do....Throw all that in with the constant running of 4 instance of folding at home....

Here is some benches if you missed them...Most of the apps I run regularly...

I think the majority of people are waiting out to see what mobo's come out closer to the time. From what I've read though Intel 965's seem to be what most people are waiting for.

What chipset you going to go for?

965...I am not interested in the SLI or the price premium of the current 975x chipsets....

I just want onboard lan, high quality audio, high end cooling on the chipsets and power caps, and plenty of ocing options...

I think the problem comes with the ocing....i mean there probably wont be many low end boards that will be oc friendl. or boards that don't have sli that will be oc friendly either. it might mean that you have to pay a bit more for a few extra features (sli) to get good ocing options.

i just remembered an article i saw about some lower end conroe boards. i'll see if i can find it.

Well besides the obvious Ass-rock board I think they may be some good non-sli ocing boards out there...I expect low end to be closer to 100...I am already looking to spedn 150-160 range...

Check out my other thread about Gigabyte board...Seems like they have some very nice ocing options...

The highest we have seen a P965 board go is 398FSB at this time. It will take another 30 or so days before this chipset and bios is dialed in.

Yes, ASUS, DFI, Gigabyte, Abit, MSI will probably be among the first top tier manufacturers to get a board to you. I hope they land in the 150 or less range without all the bells and whistles, well, maybe a few whistles.

Are there any solid prices for the 965 boards? I've seen reviews for Abit and Gigabyte boards, have any of the other manufacturers shown anything yet. At the moment besides going for a pricey intel 975x or nvidia 590 that gigabyte board shows the best results for overclocking, should be the cheaper way to go.

I know it's a 975x board but for the price it's really not a bad board.

975 will always be teh uber SLI $$ chipset it seems...
