My condo has cameras EVERYWHERE.

I'm living in a condo that was built fairly recently, and there is a lot of interesting technology in this place: plasmas everywhere, art that changes according to your preferences, and a bunch of other things that I really don't care about.

Anyway, I was working out during lunch and I noticed TWO dome cameras in the weight room. I go out to the hall and find another. I go to the elevator and find another. In the elevator... yup, another.

I can't go anywhere without someone watching me. I feel like I'm on Sliver.

I've lived in condos before and I don't remember having cameras all over like this. I know it's ostensibly for our safety, but I'd really rather not have the exceptionally hot concierge downstairs looking at me (let's just assume for a moment that she does) when I go to failure on the bench press.

That's a nice condo arrangement. My condo was buglarized once and I would've benefited if they had these hoodlums on camera.

I had to look ostensibly up 😱. Anyways, I think it's good to have cameras in the weight room, just in case someone injures themself and can't call for help. I think that's more important than possibly having your pride hurt anyways 😉.

Are the cameras in your personal area or is the wieght room and the hall you mentioned in other areas of the building. If the wieght room is part of a provided open to all Condo owners gym, and he cameras in said gyms restroom is kept to a minimum I really don't see the issue or why you would care about their existance.

Perhaps my aunt was misinformed, but the other day she was telling me about a condo in the area that has cameras inside of the apartment itself. Surely that can't be legal?

Ok, I see everyone's point. I just don't like having people potentially watching me without my knowledge, even in the gym. To me it's just a little creepy, but I'm not worried about it enough to stop working out of course.

To be clear: No, there are no cameras in my condo other than my own 😉

You aren't a woman.

If you were woman working out alone in the weight room you'd feel better knowing the camera's were up there.

Good point. There's an inverse to that though. The male concierges get a show throughout the day. The great majority of the women in this building are insatiably hot, and they seem to have an affinity for the skimpiest workout outfit possible. I'm not saying I mind, but I'm being serious in that I think it's a valid point.

I will learn to love and accept the cameras.

Just assume they are always watching you...problem solved.

It's really to help prevent crime and to assist in solving of crimes that take place on the premises.

Certainly in my block we've had a number of vandalisms - doors, elevators, etc. The total cost of vandalism related repairs last year was something like $20k - and this is something that every resident has to pay for.

In the end, thanks partly to the cameras we have installed in the communal areas, the cops found and arrested some of the culprits.

You would be doing us a great service if you can hook us up with a live web feed.

I live in a gated comunity. Before we installed cameras the gates were broken at least 1/week, usually more. They installed arms that go up/down in front of the gates to reduce chances but still it was bad.

We had to pay like $25K to get the camera systems installed but since then (over a year ago) the number of times I've come in with the gates broken is maybe 1/month or more, and usually it's not physical damage but maybe weather or maint related.

So, they act not only as a deterrent but as a way to get money back if someone actually does break something.

I don't feel any more secure with the gates or cameras than I did elsewhere, but, I think financially our community is better off with the cameras.

All statements about pros and cons aside, chances are you acknowledged the cameras when you signed paperwork.

If you bought the condo, your mortgage has a condo rider that says you agree to the policies and regs of the condo association. If your condo regs are like mine, they are written in 110% legalese and there are most likely terms related to the cameras in there (condo regs cover everything!). If you rent, you probably acknowledge and agree in your lease.

Live with it or move. Rant: 0/10

PS the cameras are a good thing. My car was backed into, and guess what gave the police their lead...
...the act caught on camera and a very good image of the license plate!

Not really. As I said, I've lived in quite a few condos before, so I didn't really think much of it.

Man, you're taking my comments way out of spirit. My post wasn't a rant and I have no intentions of doing anything about it. I was just pointing it out more out of fun than spite.

I agree.

Depending on how they hook up those cameras I could probably do that. I get a feed of the cameras from the doors on TV, but I'm assuming these dome cameras are closed-circuit?

I'll see what I can do to hook up my ATOT brethren. Going to jail if caught is a small price to pay! :gift:

They're probably all connected through the network, so there is a way for us to get at them, just depends how tech savvy their IT department is...
