my computer wont turn on

talking dirty may help get it turned on
Anything could be wrong. Got any indicator led telling if power is getting to the board?

the power supply is only 350watt which came with the case... would this mean i need a new case or would the power supply come out itself? should i upgrade the power supply to something like 400watts if it is that?

You can replace just the PS.

You should list your specs so people can make suggestions for a replacement PS.

But at this point, you don't know for certain if it is the PS, right?

im not sure if it is my ps but here are my specs:

2.8ghz 800FSB
1 gig of pc3200
120 gb 7200rpm 8mb cache
asus 9600xt
dvd burner
dvd rom
tv tuner

I'm having the same trouble. I've (I think) narrowed it down to be a busted PSU..

When you try turning the comp on, you get nothing? Not even the spin of a fan?

Usually dead cpus wont even activate enough to make it turn on for a brief 1/2 second like u said its doing. I assume this computer worked fine before, so I'm assuming that its not the cpu. (due to installation questions being out)

Basically jsut try another psu in it and message back if it worked or not.

Before you try the new PSU take a flathead screwdriver and short the power on pins to be certain it isn't just a faulty power button. If you don't feel comfortable attempting that then with many cases you can hook the reset to the power pins and use the reset button to test it.

Trust me.. most likely its a dead power supply. I had the same problem a year and a half back and it did the same thing.. PS=dead get new PS. Get an antec 480watt truepower, or something along those lines.

This is really easy...

Try that to make sure your PSU doesn't work before RMA'ing. (don't forget to unplug everything from your PSU)

It sounds like you have something shorting out somewhere. If you are using Arctic Silver (or other thermal grease that is slightly conductive) it is possible to create a short if you get some on the CPU pins by accident. If you test the PSU and it seems to be ok, I would remove and reseat all of your installed components, remove the thermal goop from the CPU and redo it, and double check all of your wiring carefully.
