Ok, I just tried upping the fsb on my comp from 147 to 166. I have an Epox 8k7a w/ the newest 1711 bios. I tried this b/c i heard that at anything past 166 the board switches to a 1/5 pci divider. However after saving to the CMOS and exiting, on the reboot, nothing came up on the screen and the computer started beeping at me. I reset manually w/ the push button on the front of the case but the same thing happened again. I tried the power button but this didnt work so i ended up pulling the plug. I decided that clearing teh CMOS would be a good fix for this but after plugging the computer's power supply up again w/ the CMOS clear jumpers in place, the power button did not work. Nothing powered up at all in the case (i.e. none of the case fans or fans connected to the mobo started up) and nothing came up on the monitor. HELP! I don't smell any melting metal so i don't think i fried nething. Is this a burned out powersupply? What do u guys think? Some help is definately needed.

Does your motherboard have jumper/dipswitch settings for the FSB? If so then you should definitely reset them to 133, as it's obvious that the problem arose from a FSB that was much too high (what possessed you to go from 147 to 166 anyway? you should go up in increments of 1 or 2!!).

If the BIOS is the only way to set the FSB then you might be in trouble. You might have to reset it on another machine or email Epox for a replacement BIOS.

Also remove the clear CMOS jumper and see if your computer powers up again. And if that doesn't work, restore everything to defaults.

whew...thanks a lot for the quick trouble shoot. I was using my friends computer before to post my problem cuz obviously mine wasn't working. Anyways, switchign the fsb back to 100 did the job. And as for what possessed me to up the fsb that much, was the fact that i'd read a lot recently about this specific motherboard and how it switches from the standard 1/4 pci divider to a 1/5 pci divider after the 166 setting in the fsb. I'd had my mobo at 147 pretty comfortably but it crapped out at 148. So i decided to give it a try seeing as how other people got good results. Guess I'll need to do a little more reading before trying that again. Jeez...wat a scare...thanks for the quick response. Hopefully you won't see me in here w/ any more problems. :D
