My computer won't shut off...

If you got Win98, there's this shutdown thing wrong with the OS that Microsoft posted a fix for. Search for article Q239887 in the Microsoft Support Knowledge Base, and install the update patch.

You might have some programs that arent exiting/terminating properly. Have u installed anything recently that may have caused this ?

bump, this happened after I installed my TV card. My TV card is fine, and before I shut down, no other programs are running... help!

<< You might have some programs that arent exiting/terminating properly. Have u installed anything recently that may have caused this ? >>

have you uninstalled the card to see if it fixes the problem? Could be driver related to the card.....

uninstalling the card, and never running the tv program shuts down the computer perfectly. But when i use it, it doesn't shut down

it sounds to me like a driver confilct or a irq issue with that card, try it in a different slot and look for newer drivers for it

I had a similar problem with an i810 mobo. When I updated the integrated video driver, it started shutting down. I was running Windows 98.

First try moving the card do a different PCI slot. That will often times cure problems of device conflicting nature.
