"My Computer" window keeps freezing

I just tried to install a new external hard-drive. I put a seagate HD into a Vantech enclosure wich supports eSATA. Formatted and partitioned the HD. I added the eSATA to SATA connector to my mobo. Connected the drive via USB and it worked fine then connected it to eSATA and comp froze. After reboot was okay, and started backing up some files.

....Then the trouble started....
When back-up was almost complete, something froze, and I had to reboot system. Then computer has been messed up since. I can't open the "My Computer" window anymore. Everytime I do, my comp freezes up. And my DVD drive won't work anymore.

The HD works perfectly when connected to my laptop. I can still hook up to desktop. Even though I can't open the "My Computer" window, I can still 'Right-Click' folders/files and 'Send To' my new external HD when I hook it up to my desktop. When I plug HD into laptop all the files from transfer are fine.

What did I do wrong?

Somebody please help,

Thanks
