My computer will not recognize my camera

I have a t2i and everytime I hook it up with usb it says Windows could not recognize it. I can use the same usb cable on my memory card reader and other devices and they are recognized just fine. I am running Windows 8.1

I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling with no luck

Agree with Elixer. The A/V port on the camera is where the USB2 compatible cable connects. That is a micro connector and somewhat fragile. On the T2i, it is also used for direct print connection. Perhaps there is a setting difference between computer and printer. Check that.

If your purpose is to offload images to the computer, I learned long ago to not tether the camera, but remove the memory chip and use a reader. It is faster, safer, and doies not risk damaging the camera connector through repeated use.

B TW, the camera must be on to be "seen." Another good reason not to use the cable for offloading. It wastes battery time.

The only reason I am trying toi use the usb port is to see how many clicks my shutter has an to install the Magic lantern firmware

OK - check MENU to verify port is for computer and not just printer. Try a different cable.

As I read this (http://www.magiclantern.fm/faq.html) you don't need to tether the camera. Put the card in a reader/writer and copy the ML files to the card. Put the card back in the camera and update firmware from the card.

After reading all the ML caveats, I would not install it.
