Well this sucks.

A couple days ago a friend of mine sent me an IM saying something like: "haha, do you remember this pic of us? (link)" Being stupid, I clicked on it and before I knew it, a virus happened and Norton went crazy. Then she said, "don't do it...virus." Too late.

Now I'm getting random popups...random files get copied/installed to the C: drive...and everytime I run Adaware and Spybot, I get dozens of new hits. Even when I run all my virus scans/malware scans in Safe Mode, it doesn't help. No way I'm fixing this one...I'm X-ing out of popups as I type this post! And Adaware just removed...100 new objects! Up from the 31 new objects last time I scanned (about a minute ago).

Time for another reformat and reinstallation of Win XP. :disgust: Luckily I have everything backed up in the partition.

She got the virus too and it automatically sent it out to everyone on her BL. I've seen this happen to a couple people on my BL before but never was I dumb enough to click it.

so much better than adaware or spybot.

 
It helps to disconnect from the internet. Every time your antivirus and spyware prog delete something, it just re-downloads itself.

Yep, friend of mine dropped me an IM like this, I guess it's a new one going around. Poor guy tries but computers just confound him. Anyway, I didn't click on it, and I told him to do a sweep.
 
Sorry to hear that, I remember getting messages like that from half the people on my buddy list a few years ago. Luckily, I didn't click any of it.

Whoo hoo back in action...with a fresh installation of Win XP. Right now all I have are video drivers, mobo drivers, DLink drivers, Firefox, and mouse drivers.
