I have the comp in my sig
and it don't work anymore for some reason
it just won't turn on or when it does it locks up or reboots on it's own

I personally think the nforce2 chipset is a joke and the overclockability of the 2500+ is subpar

I guess it's P4 time

Don't have any problems with the computer in my sig. Turns on every time... never reboots unless I tell it to... and never locks up unless I'm testing new overclocks that aren't stable.

ok it finally decided it was gonna turn on but gave me a BSOD
so i tryed 100x11=1.1ghz and this gave me BSOD
so i upped the voltages and now it seems to be loading windows........

i dunno why I would need more than default voltages to run at such a highly underclocked (or any) setting

either my motherboard, memory, or cpu is fryed

anyone wanna take a guess which one ?

Well, did you up the voltage on the memory or motherboard? If no, I'd say CPU is the problem. How high have you had it?

yes i increased the chipset and mem voltage by .1v and that made it stable at 1.1ghz
cpu voltage is still default

i can try isolating it
but the stability of this system seems to be sparatic
sometimes it's stable at a particular clock/voltage and other times it's not

ok i put my voltage as follows:

vdd 1.7v
vcore 1.65v
vdimm 2.75v

i can't believe this cause 2.65v vdimm was giving me BSOD when running my mem at 100mhz
i ran that voltage at like 200mhz for an hour of UT yesterday and left seti running all night
but now it decides to stop working ?

i am currently at 1.1ghz

Well, I don't know what to tell ya... mine works perfectly fine, and I don't really have any extraordinary parts to make it work... I have a 350 watt power supply that came with my Antec case... I have a Raptor hard drive, a WD800JB hard drive, 2 optical drives, 3 USB devices connected, media card reader, "XP3200," 1 GB (2 dimms) of RAM, 4 case fans, and a FX5900.
Nothing has been physically modified, any modifications have been made through software, I'm even using cheap RAM... about the only thing I could take a guess (did you know you can't say sta b?) at is that maybe the newer processors aren't that overclocker friendly with the different packaging... maybe with those traces you can see closer to the surface it's subject to more EMI? Who knows... but I don't think anyone is having a whole lot of luck with the new packaging. My week 24 is still the old packaging.

Heh, maybe try clearing the CMOS? I find my nforce is picky even if I up the FSB or voltage slightly...so clear and start again

yeah i just lowered the voltages as follows:

vcore 1.65v
vdd 1.7v
vdimm 2.65v

this is perfectly stable now
but it was giving me BSOD just half an hour ago

i guess i could try clearing the cmos everytime i change a setting
i've already fryed one cmos chip... (guess from clearing it too much)

also I have water cooling and all the voltage mods in place -taken from another thread
Maybe this is the reason? You've tampered with so many things it doesn't know what the hell is going on anymore?

Lol, yeah that's definitely a factor. Clear cmos and do one thing at a time

hahaha probably

also i drilled a hole in the back of the motherboard and cut two memory traces
this disabled my 3rd dimm slot and thus dual chan mem capability

but check this out I am clocked at 2.1ghz now 200x10.5

vcore 1.65v
vdd 1.85v
vdimm 1.75v

ok a program just crashed so this must not be stable...

Wow, lucky you only knocked out dual channel. Nonetheless not too bad of an OC so far ^^ I will be up in the 2.5 - 2.6 on my 2500 once my new ram arrives =)

yeah I don't think my comp is stable at any speed/voltage

i need a new one.........

So basically... your computer sucks after you drilled a hole in your motherboard, soldered a bunch of crap to it, and overclocked it... do you see anything wrong with that statement?

Lol, yeah don't resort to knocking the NF2 chipset. Possibly take more care when blinding drilling holes and sauldering.

yeah my computer does suck
the nforce2 chipset sucks both before and after i modded it
infact all nforce2 motherboards i've owned sucked

so yeah i believe the nforce2 chipset is not as good as it should be

i have an opinion.

Hey, everyone is totally entitled to their opinion. I personally love the nf2 ultra chipset and seeing as I have the best Athlon board currently on the market that kind of factors in. But yeah, just keep the basics in mind when messing with voltage, and only do one thing at a time so you can easily narrow down the cause of your BSOD or non-post.

Some people do have bad luck, but i can almost guarentee, if you had mine, or some one else's stable athlon xp system with nforce 2, you would love it, if you saw what nforce 2 was really capable of you would like it, hope you give it another chance, it really is a good chipset.

Well no offense Soulkeeper... but having an opinion of it how it comes out of the box is fine... but calling it junk after you've drilled it and soldered it is just ignorant... I'd expect a more intelligent conclusion from you than that.

yeah i've been trying to get a stable overclock every since i've purchased these components

I was hoping for 2.4ghz with a 220 fsb
i figured if other people could do it then my crazy mod happy ass could
guess not tho.

but anyways i'm at 204x10.5 ~2.14ghz

vcore 1.675v
vdd 1.85v
vdimm 1.75v

it's stable now i can prob run any benchmark but then tomarrow it will prob not be stable
very odd

BTW... if you go Intel when the Prescott comes out, we better see benchmarks the day you get it =)

how's this for you:

I have not gotten any good overclocks on 3 different nforce2 motherboards fresh outta the box

after realizing that the nforce2 chipset sucks i figured maybe I could remedy the situation with mods
this yeilded next to no extra overclock

so um yeah

hahaha yeah i would prob just go P4 cause i already have a 1.8ghz P4m

also i heard the prescott performs less than the P4EE

you know me i'll always post my benchmarks, heh
