My computer sounds like it's dying

Wonder what is going on with it though. It sounds like a harddrive is spinning down, then back up again, and the computer basically doesn't respond for a finite amount of time.

This last time it happened, I had to reboot, but then it worked fine again. Wonder what's going on!

Any ideas?

Hard drive sounds like it's either loosing power momentarily or it's dying. Have your data backed up yet?

is it giving off a deathly scream every 5 minutes and begging you put it out of its misery?

does it make a "clunk clunk clunk" at any time before it spins down?

Mine is doing the same thing. Though I think it has something to do with the psu because it happens when I jiggle the connector too. It has happend to me before (!) and I switched the psu.

Just give it some aspirine and make sure to give it plenty of fluids. If symptoms persist, call me in the morning.

sounds either like a failing hard drive, failing PSU, or, most likely, faulty motherboard.

could likely be the HD controllers on the motherboard. try a different hard drive and see if it does the same thing.

It's official, none of the harddrives were bad, it seems to be the power supply.
I unhooked my dvd drive, and my case fans for a few days to see what happens.

It only seems to cause a problem when I'm doing a lot of stuff at once...
