Hello everyone,
I have a SFF 'puter set up as a HTPC in my bedroom, and the videocard is a Radeon 9600 Pro (VGA + DVI output.)
Until recently, I had the computer connected to a 26-inch Viewsonic TV, through a DVI-HDMI cable, and everything was fine.
However, I recently acquired a Toshiba HD-DVD player, so for a couple of weeks I had to disconnect the computer from HDMI, and had the signal sent through "regular" VGA.
Last night, I upgraded my TV to a 32-inch Toshiba. I wasn't pleased with the Viewsonic's single HDMI input and lack of controls over the picture ratio - all my 4:3 content was stretched to widescreen, no matter what.
The Toshiba is larger, has two HDMI inputs, and much better picture control (as well as, I have to say, better picture quality)
However... No matter what I do, my computer refuses to display through DVI ??!!!
When I connect the DVI-HDMI cable, and turn on the machine, I see the BIOS boot screen, then the "regular" Windows boot screen, after which the display just goes dark... nothing happens. If I unplug the cable from the SFF or the TV itself, the screen turns blue.
When I connect the computer to the TV via VGA cable, all is properly displayed - except that, of course, the image is slightly blurry and not as sharp and crystal-clear as the digital connection would be.
Now, I'm pretty sure the cable is working properly - after all, it DOES pass something through, and I can't imagine that the videocard would be broken.
Nevertheless, I'm stumped by this mystery. I WOULD like to use the DVI-HDMI output, rather than VGA... Any ideas? Please advise.
