My computer now speaks Japanese...?

Just got a phone call from my husband. He was on the computer, just closed a webpage, when it decided to crash. The screen went black. When it came back, the colors were wrong, and everything was in Japanese! He also said some ATI window popped up (we have ATI video card and control center), but, being an American from Ohio, he could not read it.

What could have caused this? We keep getting crashes that the system reports as being linked to ATI files. I have changed drivers and all sorts of stuff, but things just keep going downhill (even after a total format and resintall). Could our video card be dying? It's a Radeon 9100, a few years old.

It *could* be the video card. Do you have another one to swap in to see if it at least displays the proper colours?

That popup thing is just plain strange...

No, I don't.

I did run drivercleaner, btw. Didn't seem to do anything.

Well, may check out the local computer store then to see what I can find.

If it's still speaking Japanese check control panel->regional and language options,should say english.
