My computer locks up on Diablo II after a while... don't understand why...

Just recently, I found that my processor was overheating. I took out the old thermal goo and put some arctic silver II thermal compound on my Thermaltake heatsink (someone told me these heatsinks aren't that good and that they are usually just for show) and I get an avg idle temperature of about 42 degrees celsius. After playing Diablo II for a while, my computer will just lock. I dunno... maybe my processor gets too hot? Could it be the processor, or could it maybe be my video card that's making my computer lock?

To rule out heat as a possible problem, open the case up and place a small house fan next to the case blowing air inside on the mobo. If it plays without locking up, then you have a heat issue.

If I remember correctly those coolers ain't good at all.. go read tom's review on lots of coolers at www.tomshardware.com ; that shows that even a normal Intel cooler that comes along with 800+ cpu's are FAR better than those orb thingies etc'.

Btw, did you overclock your PC? Try staying below 45C .. if you play games for a while it will get hotter than when you leave it in windows.
Also be sure you put 2 nice coolers in your case .. 1 in front and 1 at the back (while the front one sucks the air into the case.. the back one has to suck the air out of the case, don't let both of them blow air into the case, that wouldn't really work that well.)

Second maybe you want to check (if you never changed it than nevermind this) the settings of your RAM in your bios.. use 'By SPD' mode if you can or else set it all to 3T .. not 2T. The RAM Idle thingie if it's there should be around 10T.
