My computer locks up and dosn't reboot.

This is a fresh built computer. I put it together last night.
I can't figure it out. I've ruled out the BIOS and Heat as possible causes. I suspect it may be the power supply.

I notice I can't install my printer via USB without incurring an error message, but that may be a seperate problem.

This is the big clue. After my computer crashes (locks up and freezes), I can't turn on my computer for at least 15 minutes.
I had to install a different power supply to restart it. Then when I reinstall my old power supply it will boot again.

I have updated all my drivers. I haven't updated my BIOS but I've checked Soltek they don't have a fresh version.

I have a SOLTEK SL-K8AN2E-GR Motherboard I'm wondering if there are issues with this MOBO
My PSU is ANTEC Smart power
I'm using Corsair Value Select pc3200

I"ve been up all night...
help... help... help...

What do you mean by "locks up and freezes"? Does the mouse move or is it completely frozen? What are you doing when it freezes?
Try running memtest86 for a couple hours and then prime95 as a CPU burn-in test. You could also get SiSandra and use their burn-in test.
Reseat everying but the CPU, only connect those components that are necessary to boot the machine. Unfortunately you are in trouble-shooting mode.... Good luck.

It probably locks up because you posted the SAME question twice...

Seriously, how can you 'rule out' the power supply if you swap a new one in and it boots? Something's fishy. Just try and see if it's prime stable with the video card and the HDD.

Still no luck eh dude? I'm kinda confused... are you using the Antec which you specified? What is the wattage rating on your power supply? Is it new? Sounds to me like when you are trying to draw power for a USB device you are experiencing problems. However provide some more info and maybe I can be of assistance, or someone else. :)

Ok. Instead of REPLACING the power supply, what happens if you just unplug the power supply and then plug it in again? Do the same symptoms happen when you leave the different power supply in the case?

If just unplugging and plugging in the same power supply fixes the problem, then the motherboard is likely to blame.

If you can leave your other power supply in place and not lock up, then the problem is probably the Antec power supply.

its really NOT THAT DIFFICULT to find out what is wrong. this goes for the 400 posts a day like this. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS...exchange parts and find the bad one. thats it! simple! you dont even have to bump your threads! "But what if heat is a problem" WELL...when you try a different cpu, youll notice if you left the plastic sticker on!

dont even bother asking for help until you've tried every different part possible.

Ladies and gentlemen.. This is the dictionary definition of "Shotgun Troubleshooting."

Nothing wrong with replacing SUSPECT parts, but replace "everything possible" in an effort to find the problem?

by the time you ask for help and bump your thread 80 times because people are tired of answering the same questions, you could have replaced everything

We could spend our time flaming him because he's new, but I'd rather try to get to the root of the problem.

If this was the last place on earth you could find the help you needed, and you get a reception like that... wouldn't that be a bummer!
