My computer keeps freezing, please please help

After fifteen minutes or so of running windows 2k pro, I get a blue screen that gives some numbers and stuff then it says: "beginning dump of physical memory...Physical memory dump complete. Contact system administrator." Then my computer is frozen and I have to reset. I'm worried that this problem is fragmenting my harddrive because I have to keep resetting from windows. Every time I re-boot it goes through the file structure which is annoying. I tried re-installing win2k but I get an error that some program is not fully installed and to reload windows and let that program fully start before trying to install windows, even though I have no idea what that program is. Any ideas on what I should do?

I think a litle more info is needed before we can help.

What is the actual Error Code displayed.
A description of your system hardware.

You may want to run the Diagnostic software from the Hard Drive MFG
to rule out a bad hard drive.

It could be Bad Ram corrupting the Pagefile, or it could be the drive itself.

Oops, I didn't write down the various numbers in the error because it's like two lines long and didn't think it meant anything. My harddrive is a maxtor 20 gig 7200 rpm drive. I'm running win 2k pro on an amd 1.33 ghz w/ 256 ram. The motherboard is a epox 8k7a. My harddrive was OEM so it didn't come w/ diagnostic software. Is there software to download from the internet that is good for diagnosing problems? Thanks.

Thanks guys. I'll try the suggestions and see what happens. I just hope it doesn't require reformatting the drive because I can't keep the computer on long enough to back up the harddrive!

I noticed my computer doesn't crash in safe mode. I got into safe mode and used powermax software. It gave me the error: "fail drive recal test" and in the explaination it said "Recal command failure drive ready me out" Anyone know what this means? I guess I have to contact maxtor.

Update: I retried the test but not in windows safe mode, but from the command prompt. Both the quick test and the regular test passed w/o problems. Looks like it's a problem while in windows. Any suggestions? thanks.

Start with the System Event Viewer.
Start \ Settings \ Control Panel \ Administrative Tools \ Event Viewer \
See what errors have been logged, and post them here.
