Can you check if there is a virus on the xp drive? Have you recently installed any hardware or software? Does everything work ok in win2000?

just a wild shot in the dark, but I had a weird similar problem with my PSU.

Basically, I would randomly reboot, or freeze and reboot and all of the sudden, no IDE drives connected. I'm like... hmm, it was working about 30 seconds ago. Anyway, it seemed like it would remain basically the same and not detect any ide drives as long as the reboots were soft. As soon as I manually flicked the switch on the atx psu, the thing behaved when I rebooted. Ever since I switched to a *real* psu, I haven't had the problem, but it was definitely weird.

Good Luck-

I formated but in the process of doing so I found out the cause of my problem was the sound card.

Glorious - could I have the movie rights? Nice but mundane user stuff until "Master boot HD-0 to HD-1". Oh, feel the Force :)

Was going to flap my wings about something nasty writing on your disk, but then it turns up you found the guilty party. "OK - something from Creative" I think, then I see it's an onboard Aureal. Intrigued. Would you care to enlighten the world a little with further details?

Ok, my onboard sound is C-Media 8738 sound w/ A3D and EAX compatibility. I broke that tripping on some headphones. I've had it disabled for the past 6months. To replace it I bought a C-Media 8738 based soundcard, work like a charm until I got Freelancer. Freelancer didn't like it at all so I got my old SB Live! X-gamer 5.1 and put it in. Freelancer worked so all was good. I did notice a strange problem though, when ever I used alot of processing power the volume of mp3s and movies would go down almost to nothing. To fix it all I would do was stop the file and start it again. I chalked that one up to Creative's crap. Then before the "Freeze of Death" I was pluging a headset in and I think I shocked the card, not cool. It proceeded to play mp3s for another 30 or so seconds before it froze. And then i went through a reformat...blah blah blah.

My computer has been doing the same thing for a couple of weeks now. I t started with it not detecting the secondary IDE slave drive, once in a while. Now I get the double beep and no IDE drives found, once every 5th or 6th startup.
Tried updating the BIOS, (abit KT7 board) no luck.
Tried reloading ME- SU99405 error, tried loading Win98- SU99405 error. ditto for XP.
Sound card has now stopped working and printer isn't recognized. Downloaded drivers,- still not recognized.

I assumed it was a MoBo issue, because of the variety of problems. I was also told it could be a power supply problem. (not enough juice to run everything. I was in the process of ordering Asus A7N8X board and Athlon XP CPU, but am concerned about the power supply.

Which brought me to the forums. Any ideas/ suggestions. (will be deleting Nero when I log off)

Any suggestions
