My computer is slugglish after installing SP1 for WinXP... known problem?

I just updated to WindowsXP Service Pack 1 on my laptop (1.4 P4m 256 Ram) and boot up time seemed to have increased by a few seconds and it takes longer to get into windows. When I arrive at my desktop, extra time is required before the hard drive stops grinding around looking/loading windows. Other programs take longer to load as well.

Anyone else notice this as well or am I the only one here? Is there something else microsoft added into the bootup list that I can disable/turn off?

Thanks mem for those suggestions 🙂. Well after a few restarts, the bootup time has gotten back to normal but the "lag" upon arriving at the desktop is the same.

Oh well, I'll see if defrag does anything.... btw this windows installation is on FAT32.

When I installed SP1 in XP Pro it installed with no problems and it also speeded up my bootup time. The computer appears to be faster also.

When you installed SP1 were you logged onto the internet? You should as when SP1 is installing it accesses the MS website and downloads and installs a few newer files than those included with SP1. That could be the difference.

Also log onto the MS Windows Update site and see if there are any new fixes for your installation. The past few weeks there have been several critical security updates you can choose to install.
