My computer is running really slow

I got a P4 1.9ghz. about a month ago, but recently I have been noticing that it has been running very slow. I'm not sure why, but I'm thinking that it might be because I am running Apache webserver and CesarFTP FTP server, along with other programs. Could one of these server programs be causing the computer to run slowly? Also, my web server doesn't get much traffic, so I wouldn't think that it would use very much of the computer's resources.

I doubt it... those programs wouldn't hurt you at all... unless you have little ram? I would check to see if drivers are corrupted, specifically directx and video... that reminds me, what kind of slowdown?

I have 512MB of RAM, and not much of it is being used. I just remembered that I made some tweaks to my registry. They were the ones reccommended at tweaktown.com. Could that be the problem?

have you tried something as simple as just restarting the computer?

has it been runnign slowly since you did the registry tweaks? they may be the problem

It's so very easy to tell... Kill the programs, check the CPU utilization. If still up, then the programs weren't eating it. If goes down, then they were dining at your CPU's expense. Also, run some benchmarks, for crying out loud 🙂 Do you score similar FPU/CPU/RAM points as similar computers (Sandra benchmark, for example).

Boot in safe mode, check the same as recommended above. If all fails, reinstall the OS.
