Tried everything the book says...
started with trying "win" and "exit" ect.
then I tried to re-boot and several different approaches. this apparently happened while the IBM Aptiva sat idle all night using Win98. Any idea's appreciated! Thanks.

Can you get into safe mode? Well a better question is can you bring up the selection screen to get into any kind of mod

So if you restart it, it just boots to dos?

Correct. I can't get into safe mode. When I restart it goes directly to not only DOS but DOSkey.
Any idea's?

take the floppy out of the a: drive :)

ok...so the prompt is "c Doskey" or something similar? can you do any dos commands? maybe in the autoexec.bat a "prompt" command is setup to "doskey" (type "prompt $p$g" to set it back to normal if you care...)

seems like it's not loading windows, and dropping you into the dos prompt. can you change directories to the windows directory (cd \windows)? has it been wiped out maybe?

do a 'chkdsk' and see if there is are hard drive errors...

no error messages at during booting? xxxx not found, etc?

Well I didn't see it anywhere so what OS are you running?

Try this. Go to the root directory and type this.
deltree C:\winboot.ini
if prompted say yes.

If this file is present your computer will not boot into windows.
