yah i know wrong forum but i will get a response faster here.

im running win98 on a p3 500

my computer keeps restarting itsself randomly. i unhooked it from the internet and went looking and i didnt find any files that were starting up that shouldnt be or anything in the task scheduler that could be screwing it up.
i cleaned out all my temporary internet files, cache etc.

i recently put in a new power supply, its been working amazing since ... until today.. could that be the problem?

definetly sounds like a power supply problem. how many watts is the one you have in there now?

I would be inclined to agree with RalliSpec (great minds think alike).

Of course, the other thing that can cause that is the motherboard. Ouch.

Good luck!

yeah thats what i'm inclined to think now too--- becusae 300watts should be more than enough.

i'd have to say bad mobo now. :(

Not sure about that. The only thing I can think of is if you're plugging it into a bad electrical socket that's starving your power supply.

Cheaper power supplies actually have less wattage than they're rated for. That's why I asked you what kind of power supply. Antec and Enermax make some very good ones. For the price you paid, you may have gotten a bad one. I'd suggest putting in the $60 (USD) and getting a really good power supply. I'd suggest a 300W ATX for your setup; that should be more than enough.

How is your power? Do you have a surge protector or UPS (uninteruptable power supply) hooked up?

hadnt thought about that.. you may be correct-- getting a nice surge protector or UPS might help also.

i dont think so.
i really trust the place i bought it from and they only carry the one brand... i have a 300w in there now, it was only 250 before so it should be enough wattage...

Were you properly grounded when you were installing your new power supply?

It sounds like you may have zapped your mobo (or a stick of RAM) when you were installing your new PSU. :(

last tuesday.

maybe you have bad ram.. have you tried switching their slots to see if that does anything?
now that you mention it.. my ram could be loose cuz i took it out when i was replacing the powersupply.

...and this was my first doing stuff in my computer experience sooooooooo...

I think she has a dirty power problem. You see that a lot in houses with older wiring.....

I had a similar problem a while ago with my comp restarting randomly.
I tried switching out ram first, but it didn't fix it.

Turned out it was the motherboard.
I got a quick replacement from newegg.com because it was only 2 months old, but unless you have some kind of warranty it looks like you're screwed :(

would changing to a new outlet effect that? or if part of a house has bad power, would that mean all of it does?
