so i went to a computer store
they said it would be 46 dollars for a new powersupply and 40 bucks in labour
then they said that it would take about two days before they could look at it.

yeah like i could go two days without a computer so i bought the powersupply and did it myself

it took like 10minutes and i had a very vague idea of what i was doing, i am sooooo happy i did it myself.


in any case im a happy girl now.
my new powersupply is very quiet

$46 is about what I paid for a new supply 2 years ago so that's not too bad (a few capacitors on my old one blew up and the whole thing started smoking... yikes). It's so simple to install the new one it's not even funny. Good you got it going.

At least they were honest about the time frame. Sounds like a decent shop. Too bad the Power supply was expensive.

Just a bunch of unplugging and plugging (And 4 screws--well, more if you count the case cover). Some folks are just too afraid to try. In the 'ol AT Power Days you could put the motherboard connectors in reversed and f-ck things up, but, not too easy to do that anymore.

Congrats, you've moved up a level.

TIP: If you don't have a UPS, you should get one so the PS (and other components) will last longer. Helps keep the voltage fluctuation to a minimum. Stuff still breaks but fewer times and farther apart.
