Hello every. My computer has just started acting wierd all of a sudden. When I try to access my floppy drive it keeps saying "A:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function" and I have no idea what has caused this. Then when I try to access my CD drive it allows me to enter the drive but then it shows nothing on the disk. Then when I try to access my DVD drive, it has the same error message as my floppy drive "A:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function." I have no idea what is going wrong. Can someone please help me here? Thank you:).

Um...your drives are unplugged? Your motherboard is going kaput? You're inserting blank discs? You have a virus or some other corruption of windows?

This condition persists after rebooting? Do you have any reason to suspect a virus infection, perhaps (file sharing, wierd email attachments that you opened, etc)?

TheBoyBlunder, My drives are all plugged in. My motherboard is working fine. CD's and floppy disks definately have information on them. I have ran Norton AntiVirus three times now, so I definately do not have a virus.

MechBgon, yes the condition does persist after rebooting.

Are their any other possibilities? Thank you again for your help:).

How about a full rundown on your system :) What operating system does it have (Win98, WinME, Win2000, WinXP...?) and what hardware does it have? Also, you ran Norton Antivirus... but are your virus definitions the latest ones? Old definitions are yesterday's news, make sure it has the newest ones AND that it's scanning EVERY file with heuristics turned on.

MechBgon, by "a full rundown on your system" do you mean a new reinstall of Windows? The operating system is Windows XP Home Edition. The Hardware it has is:

Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz 533 FSB
512Mb PC2700 DDR Ram

My Norton Antivirus Virus Definitions are up-to-date also and I have scanned every file on my computer.

Thank you for your response:).

Product: eTrust Antivirus, eTrust InoculateIT, Inoculan, InoculateIT
Version: 6.0
OS: WinNT, Win2000, WINXP

Q: After installing eTrust AV/InoculateIT I can no longer access my CD-ROM drive, my floppy drive, or my CDR/CDRW/CD-writer/CD-burner. I get messages like "A:\is not accessible. Incorrect function" How can I resolve this issue?

A: There have been some reported cases of this occurring when some type of CD burning software is installed on the system.

Issues have been reported from users involving:

Nero
Though these are the only reported so far others may have similar issues. Please perform either the below steps as a resolution:
If the software is not needed, uninstall the CD burning software.
Upgrade the drivers of the CD burning software to the most current version available from the vender.

Maybe this will help?!
YMMV:cool:

GregANDTCH, I do have Nero burning software and it looks like a newer driver has been released (5.5.10.42) so I am downloading that now. Just one question though, do I need to delete the old drivers (5.5.10.42) before I install the new ones:)?
