Ok, well I put my problem that happens first then Ill explain what happen all prior to this.

So when I put a CD in the drive (be a game, windows XP cd, dvd), and it loads and I open my computer. As soon as it sees that there is a CD/DVD in the drive, my compyter locks up. But if there is no CD/DVD in drive I can move freely about My computer.

Now back to when evreything was running fine. I had AMD 3500+(939), DFI LanParty Ultra-D, 1 GB ram, 160GB HD, 7800 GTX, Windows XP Pro. Everything was running fine. Then I deciede to try Linux, so I installed Ubuntu, didnt like it, then I installed Fedora. Had some fun with it, then deiced to go back to XP. I try botting off CD, it would say inspecting hardware, and it would just stay at a blank screen.

So I had a AM2 5000+ lying around. So I went to the local shop and bought my self a Asus M2N-e. Installed all the things needed. Tried botting up windows, same thing. My friend came over with his computer, hooked up my hard drive to his Asus M2N-E w/3600+, installed Windows. Boot up windows and I load a CD, freezes in My Computer. Got a new DVD drive. Still no go. Tried old DVD drive on another computer, works perfectly fine.

Tried reinstalling Windows, had a bit of trouble with HD detecting. Windows installed kept on saying could not reformat HD, something about some errors. Got it to reinstall Windows, still freezes in my computer with CD.

Anyways I tried to give all the detail that I have. So if someone could tell me what could possibly be the problem. Next step is trying a new hard drive.

Thanks

Well looks like you've already done a bit of process of elimination. Down to either your HD or your copy of Windows then.

Well I got a new HD, but it didnt want to detect it. I took out my old 939 setup and tried the harddrive. But in the process of changing over video card, I dropped it :/ . Now on the 939 setup I dont get any post. On my DFI board, the VGA detect light stays on, so I dont know if the card is dead now? But it wasnt that high of a drop, maybe 3-4 inchs. Im going to try another Video card as soon as I get one. Note, I tried 2 different Windows CDs, both Corp., and I tried installing Vista, but it froze when it tried to read the DVD...

Could it be because of the installtion of Linux, because before that everything was fine and dandy. Also I tried a CD reader, and it saw the CDs fine and did not lock up. So maybe its the DVD driver in windows?

Honestly, I have no idea what was the problem. I bought a new video card, and popped it in the 939 setup, and it booted up. Then I tried my AM2 setup, and it works too. So I really dont know. Because my other video card worked before I dropped it. :/
