My computer freeze's when I right click and go to new!!

About 2 days ago I right clicked on the desktop and I went to new. Two seconds after it had been highlighted, the computer froze. After a bit I opened up the processes and closed explorer.exe and then restarted it. The computer was unfrozen, but I couldn't create a new anything. I've scanned for spy/adware (Spybot S&D), defraged, did a scan disk, and a full virus scan. I think it the DLL/function/whatever that makes the the new submenu is corrupt. If I go to file>new in a folder, it does the same think. I've installed the Windows XP SP1a patch and bunch of others. I'm not running Norton, I'm running PC-cillin 2003.
