I am attempting to externally connect a new 1 TB drive to my laptop for extra storage. The laptop is using Windows XP SP2.

I have attached it to the computer through an external enclosure and through a simple sata-usb connector. Both times a dialog bubble appeared starting: usb device, sata hard drive, and then hardware installed and ready to use. Unfortunately, the hard drive never appeared in my computer. I tried refreshing multiple times as well as restarting the computer, but was unsuccessful.

Is there anything I can do to make it appear in My Computer?

The drive may need to be formatted. Go to my computer, right click and choose manage. From there go to disk management. Right click on the unformatted volume and format it.
