newly assembled computer does not connect through a router only to the modem. i never had this problem with my older computer. the MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-M57SLI, it has a single gigabit ethernet connection and when i first tried it it would not connect so i tried a pci ethernet card and it would also not connect. neither would connect through either of my routers; a Belkin and an SMC. would this be a problem with the motherboard? both ports work with the modem fine. i installed all drivers and updated. any ideas before i decide to run the house through my box so i can connect mine to the modem?

try changing the cable. Sometimes cables that turn old gets degraded, especially those cheapie ones that come with the router or dsl/cable modem.

what kind of IP are you getting from the router or are you not getting one at all? Also is your router getting an IP from your modem?

i am not usually getting an ip from my router, i am usually getting an apipa addy or when i do get one the tray icon says low connectivity. i know that the router is fine b/c my house mate is using it fine and my cable and port are ok b/c i am using them now plugged into the modem, but when i plug into the router i get low or no connectivity with both of the routers i have tried. i have tried renewing the ip addy but it either doesn't work or i get low connectivity.
