It was a typical afternoon and work. Surfing the web and posting random comments on ATOT when my wife calls, ?Honey Andrew was playing on your computer and it just died.? ?We tried restarting it but nothing happens,? she said. ?Nothing? I replied? ?Yes,? she stated. ?Not even the fans are running when you push the power switch,? I asked? ?Nope,? she replied. ?What do you think it is,? she asked. I pondered for a moment then replied, ?I think it might be the power supply. It?s been making noise for the last couple of weeks.? ?How much is one of those and when could you get one,? she asked? ?Around $50-75 and Staples might have one in stock. I?ll stop on my way home and check,? I stated. ?Good, I wanted to play WoW tonight and I need your computer to play,? she replied. We said our good byes and I hung up the phone.
On my way home I stopped at my local Staples and bought a 400 Watt SmartPower 2.0 for $70.00. Once I got home I attended to my children and eat some dinner. My wife left with my oldest daughter for a dance recital practice and I started working on my PC. I was right my old 330 Watt Antec power supply of three and a half years finally failed. After I replaced it with the new everything was back to normal. Well as normal as my household can get. So later when my wife got home she decided she was too tired to play so I logged in and ran The Sunken Temple instance with my guild mates.
Cliff Notes:
1) Computer Dies
2) Diagnose over the phone
3) Pick up suspect part
4) Replace Part
5) Life back to normal
Do you think the Antec SmartPower 2.0 is a good power supply? It is very quite compared to my older unit.
