i'm in a bit of a jam. i was slapping together a pc with the following parts:

iwill xp333r v2.1
amd xp1600+
crucial 512mb pc2700
ati 32mb radeon ddr
blah blah blah

i think that's pretty much all the important stuff, but if i missed anything, lemme know and i will gladly correct it. now.. here is what happened. last nite i threw everything together and installed win98. did the driver installs and OS updates. this morning, i started doing the application installs and everything was going along pretty good.

after setting up my win98 partition, i was about to start on my win xp partition. i reboot the pc, and just out of curiousity, i went into the bios and started to mess around with fsb. during my previous days operation, i was operating at 133. so just for kicks, i pushed it up to 135... rebooted... posted... 140.... rebooted... posted... 145.... rebooted.... black screen. there were no error beeps, just a black screen. i tried to clear the cmos, but the results are the same. i pulled out the battery too, but no luck. maybe perhaps i am doing the clear cmos prcodeure wrong. could someone briefly explain to me the clear cmos procedure? or is my mobo (or another part... cpu?) toast?

The login on this site always gets me. Pulling your battery and leaving it out for 30-45 minutes should clear the CMOS.

Just boot without any video card or ram and then it will give you errors. Install everything back and it should work.

To reset the BIOS the standard way, you connect the two pins for clearing the CMOS with the jumper.

so i left the battery out overnite and just popped it back into the mobo today. still no boot. i took the cpu and ram out and tested it on another mobo and they both work fine. the only other possible thing i could blame is the PSU... replaing the PSU is probably gonna cost about the same as replacing the mobo... DOH!!!!

Try booting everything up outside of the case. Try the power supply on another computer and you could also test the power supply with the little touch the green to a black wire on the axt connector with a short piece of wire trick. PM me if you need help.

Quoting the manual off of iwills website:

If the system is no longer able to boot after changing the settings, the only way to recover is to clear the data stored in RTC CMOS. To reset the RTC CMOS data, take the JP1 jumper cap off of pins 1-2, place onto pins 2-3, and then place back onto pins 1-2 again. This will return the RTC to the default setting. Then run the BIOS setup program and choose Load Optimized Defaults to select the original manufacturer default settings. Save and Exit to record the settings to CMOS memory.

This is from page 29 of the manual for the the IWill XP333-R series. Found at IWill XP333-R manual link

Hope this helps.
