my compaq's hdd crashed... can i use the restore disks on new hdd?

my compaq's hdd is about dead--- making grinding noises. im gonna buy a new hdd but i am afraid i wont be able to use my xp home restore disks provided by compaq. will i be able to? is there a workaround if i cant? I just dont want to have to rebuy xp home.

It should work as long as the restore disks are for the computer that they came with.
