My boss called me into her office today and told me that the company was giving me a raise

It was about 75% of the raise I was going to ask for next month

I was caught so off-guard that I just stammered out out some thanks and grinned sheepishly - I know that I would have gotten 100% of what I was going to ask (couple of VPs thanked me personally a couple of times for my work)

GODAAMNIT !!! :|

Sorry..I guess? After that "How much do people make" threads that have been going around, and realizing I make a lot less, or that you people lie on polls, I don't feel as much sympathy. =p

My boss is a sweetheart, I really don't wanna look like a selfish ass. She was more excited about my raise than me :p

Went through that last year ... errr ... in 2006 whatever - got laid off at Christmas '06 (from print media). Sucked that I had just paid my college tuition too and had to get a new apartment at the same time .... I ate ramen and lentils for 3 months

I've been underpaid since I've been working, but landed 7 raises last year because they know how underpaid I am. (no worries, most were pretty small) Just keep in mind that the longer you work, the more raises you'll get and the more management will understand your value as an employee. Hang in there....you might get another one next year.

yeah shitty ones you should have screen for when applying.

lol, thats funny. each year has been exponentially better than the last for the company i work for. on my 3rd year here they ended up having problems and had to lay off people.

that was really forseeable and something i could screen for.

i didn't get laid off, but other people did.

Unless if you're a minor, do something about. You control your life.

Yes....but no one is hiring. I am either over qualified or under qualified. I had an interview today for a technician job. The guy just went, "Why are you here? You should be designing circuits or something. I have to make sure the headhunters screen better". I even branced out to non engineering positions, but still no luck.

way to think on your feet, lol.

if you already had an idea of what you would be looking for and they came in 25% lower, why not discuss it?

I see absolutely no reason why you can't go back and have a professional discussion with your manager about a higher raise.
