My commute home tonight: A funny ass story *ROAD RAGE INSIDE*

I had a run in today with an angry woman Jetta driver. So we're at a light side by side. I'm on the right; she's on the left; and there are no marked lanes. So the 2 of us should legally be able to go straight. When I pull up to her right side, she motioned me asking if i was going straight and indicated that my lane shouldn't go straight, which is moronic bullsh!t on her part. She also had a very belligerent attitude in her looks and gestures. In response, I just shrugged and smiled at her. Then as soon as the light turns green, I speed ahead (I always do that at a light, since I have good reaction time), which naturally pisses the Jetta driver off. She's all self-righteous about it too. I didn't do anything illegal AFAIK, just drove aggressively.

So anyway we're going in the same direction and before reaching another light she tries to pass me on the left. Mind you it's a one-lane road, so I sped ahead and didn't let her pass me, which naturally pissed her off even more.

She did pass me afterwards though. There was a light where there were 2 lanes at the light but merged back to single after the light. She squeezed past me and an Acura TL in front of me so she's 2 cars ahead of me; the Acura eventually turns off. I remained cool... BUT I wasn't going to let her get away with successfully passing me. So I'm right behind her at which point I tailgate her ass until the next light.

Then at the next light, it was red; I was behind her. The Jetta driver and her adult daughter storm out of the car and approach my Toyota Echo! They looked really really pissed so I locked my doors and kept my window rolled up. The woman started hollering at me to roll down my window (yeah right), I shrugged and smiled at which point she got even MORE pissed. Trust me, she wanted me to be angry and upset but I wasn't going to let her enjoy that. My shrugging and smiling and general indifference was waaay more effective.

Anyway, she was still hollering and I was still just sitting there all smug. Then she slapped my window a couple times! I'm still just calm and indifferent and very smug mind you. We're still at a light and the 2 women are outside of their parked car and making a scene on this street and this is during rush hour, around 6:30pm at a fairly busy intersection.

Then the 2 women, obviously frustrated with me, flag down some car going the other direction. They tell the random driver their sob story, pointing all these fingers at me and meanwhile I'm still inside my parked car, enjoying this whole situation, knowing I didn't do anything "wrong" and enjoying my A/C. It's awesome.

Anyway, from what I could tell the Jetta woman asked the random driver to call the cops 'cause a cop showed up soon after. Then the 2 women flock to the cop and tell him their sob story, still gesticulating a lot towards me and I'm still just inside my locked parked car waiting. Then the cop comes over to my car; I roll down the window; he could see how calm I am; he asks how I am doing; I tell him I'm fine; and he asks me what happened. I told him I was just commuting home and shrugged. Then he asked why the women claim that I was following the Jetta so closely at which point I acted all concerned and asked if there was any damage to the Jetta. I even poked my head out the window to make sure and to show concern, all this in a very calm and collected tone. Then I explained to him that I was driving closely because it was rush hour and there was bumper to bumper traffic, which was totally believable. Then he walked away. The cop talked to the women again and said we could go home. Then as the cop was driving off, I got his attention to ask if there's any summons and he said no, that I could go home and that's that.

Oh yeah I almost forgot... the Jetta and I were parked before a traffic light. Again there was 2 unmarked lanes at the light so when the cop told us to go, I pulled up to the right side of the Jetta again... and again, I smoked them when the light turned green but it turned out that at that light, the Jetta turned left and I went straight so we parted ways. Aww shucks, hehe. Man, awesome commute today... it's never ever like this either. It's usually the one part of my day that's never had drama until now. I'm usually just on auto-pilot on my commute.

I really hope I don't run into them again because they seem like the vindictive type and who knows what they're capable of... but today's run in was with my rental Echo and I will have my Eclipse back from the shop tomorrow, so they will never know it's me if they see me around town anyway.

*PHEW* All this drama is so funny ass to me though 'cause I was never upset throughout. Anyway, I hope this was nearly as entertaining to you as it was to me.:)

Hmmm....so, you drive aggressively and speed past this other driver, then she later passes you and you tailgate her. But you're completely in the right? Uh huh, sure. Way to go.

why did you stick around so long after they got out of their car?

man, they're stupid for getting out. if you were in a foul mood you could have shot them both, and they would have DESERVED IT!!

Hey nowhere in my post did I say I was in the right. I realize I was getting back at her for something silly. I understand that I lowered myself to her level in a sense.

Still funny as hell to me though. The motive for most of my actions was just entertainment so lighten up.:)

I couldn't. Her Jetta was parked in a one-lane road in front of a traffic light and the opposing lane was also blocked with traffic and the other random driver she flagged down and stopped. Besides, I was in no rush to get home so I didn't let it get to me that I was stuck there.

Geez, amazing you stayed that calm. I probably would have run them over :p

Yes, I realize I have a problem with road rage, I'm slowly taking care of it though :)

Sorry, tailgating is one of my pet peeves and I HATE it when people do it to me. But hey, pegging it to get in front of people is the funzor. :D

Hehe. The Echo is a pretty decent car for a cheezy rental. Its pickup is great since the car is so light (it's basically hollow).

I was tempted to give them the finger too. But like I said, I decided that it would be far more effectively infuriating for them if I just remained calm, collected, smiling, and smug, and it was! Hehe.

I couldn't drive off. I was stuck there because the Jetta was parked in front of me; it was a one-lane road, and the opposing lane had too much traffic (it was rush hour, around 6:30pm).

Glad you enjoyed my story, sully:)

I am not generally a tailgater. I used to be though when I was younger. I used to be a typical road rager and tailgate people's asses if they did anything so mere as cut in front of me or not yield to me. I've pretty much outgrown that and tonight's incident is really an exception for me. That lady was asking for it.:D

You have a point. I would never have pulled a stunt like this anywhere in NYC for example. However I live in a residential suburb where guns aren't as commonly carried. *shrug*

If someone pointed a gun at me I would have no problem running them down.

I don't get it. What's the big deal about being tailgated? If the person in front stops suddenly and the person behinds hits them, it's the fault of the person who rear-ended the person in front for following too closely.

Still their fault, but you get the damaged rear.

That's true which is why if and when I tailgate (which is rare that I do nowadays), I do it verrrry carefully with my foot covering the brake and my eyes carefully glued to the tail lights of the car in front of me, since I'm aware the liability is all on me.
