My Comcast bill is out of control. Can I do anything to lower it?

I"m currently paying about $160 a month for cable TV and internet.

For Cable TV I have the Digital Starter package, Digital Preferred package, and the DVR service. It costs me around $99 for this.

My Cable Internet is their standard fare and it costs about $48.

Is there anything I can do to cut these costs down, short of canceling services?

Call them up and threaten to switch to DirectTV or Bell South unless they allow you have the pricing that new subscribers have for 6-months.

Something like this. Just tell them you want to cancel service and they'll probably try to sell you something. If they don't, then just cancel anyway. :D

How DARE Comcast charge you for all those services they're providing. What bastards!!

Seriously man, get rid of services you don't need or just STFU. No one is putting a gun to your head forcing you to have both packages plus DVR. If you feel the value isn't worth the price you're paying, then just cancel it.

Lower pricing for x amount of months is horseshit since you will be right back where you started when its all over. Do yourself a favor and get rid of comcast.

Call and tell them you're thinking of canceling services and if there's anything they can do. I do this every six months to keep my promotional rate.

You'd be surprised. Cable companies will jump through hoops to keep customers, especially if you have a good competitor like FiOS in the area.

Comcast doesn't offer bundles for TV and Internet?

I'm a Time Warner (former Comcast) subscriber and my TV and Internet total $110 (that's including the extra tax/fees). I don't have a DVR but that would add I think $5.99 to my bill per month.

Why don't you call Comcast and see if there's any new offers you can sign up for. Before I called Time Warner I was paying around $120 JUST for TV with no internet (was on DSL). I called them up after looking online at their plans (I was on a grandfathered plan before TW took over) and signed up for TV and internet saving a butt load.

Doesn't always work, we tried and they came and shut it all off.

After haggling with them, they refused to offer us a special since we were an existing customer so we dropped to basic cable and the lowest tier internet.

Any and every TV show I care to want to watch can either be streamed online or the seasons can be rented through Netflix(or streamed through netflix). Do you really need cable TV? Is it worth the cost? It isn't for me, so I've never paid for it. Everything will go on-demand eventually.
