My college class screwed me over

So I took an ECE lab class last quarter, didn't do so well on the midterm, did great on the lab reports, and then above average on the final. So with that, I would have gotten a B in the class, but I just found out yesterday that I received a 0 on one of the labs. But I specifically remember turning that lab in...I remember exactly how I turned it in, when I turned it in, and who I turned it in to. With a 0 on the lab, my grade in the class drops to a C.

I wrote to the professor, the TA I handed the lab in to, and the TA who grades the labs. So far, the professor wrote back to me saying that he told us in class that if grades weren't posted, then we were to ask him about it, which I didn't do. I think I just misunderstood him though because they didn't post a grade, whereas I thought they would have at least put up a 0. He then told me that he couldn't change my grade unless I presented him with the graded lab report.

So do any of you think that I could get this fixed? I kinda know the TA that I turned it in to, so I'm hoping that he can help. But I highly doubt that this far after I turned the lab report in (about 3 weeks), that they will just find it somewhere. Since I'm positive that I did hand the lab report in, is this something that I could take to the Dean?

I'm just kind of freaking out. I would hate to get a C in the class when I know that I deserve a B, and I really can't let my gpa slip. So have any of you ever had an experience like this before?

Theres your mistake. Suck it up and deal with the C, its your fault. You can argue it , but it will probably not be resolved favorably.

One lesson to learn here is to pay attention to your grades during the class. It's up to you to catch mistakes as soon as they happen, including lost labs and even a math error in grading a test. It's much easier to get errors corrected when they happen rather than weeks later.

It's also good to make the extra effort -- even if you're only shooting for a B you can still try for a "mid-B" rather than clinging to the low edge of it.

go for it, protest as much and as loudly as you can for the grade you deserve. there's no reason a B student like you would simply not turn an important assignment in and take a flat ZERO on it.

my friend whose EE also had a sucky lab partner WHO BURNT all the circuits of the robot they were working on before dropping the class. my friend couldn't find the b@stard and panicked so he borrowed a robot from a previous class to turn in but as it turns out they mark them. so now he has to speak to the dean...

I got screwed over in a CS class like that. The difference was that the lazy TAs didn't do any of the grading for the semester until the week after finals so I had no idea that I was "missing" 3 homework assignments. They finally managed to find 2 of them but I still got a 0 on one. This happend to a number of people.

i got screwed over in one of my CS classes last year.

they marked me absent for 4 weeks! even though other people even stated i was there and he had work i turned in during the time!

I had to go to the dean and fight to get a good grade. took me almost a full semester to get it. finally got it changed and all the proff said to me was well make sure i see you in the future. bah a-hole.

Why don't you reprint it out and give it to your TA after talking to him?

We wrote the lab report out in pen. Also, we only had one sheet of the data and one paper for prelab stuff. None of that is on record. So to get the data, we would need to rebuild the circuit, do everything, write out the prelab stuff again, and pretty much redo it all.

talk to the TA.. remind him of any details you can recall. if he remembers you turning the report in, then maybe he can remember where he might have put it. if he can find it, then you ought to be OK. if he doesn't remember, I'm guessing you're gonna have a harder time with it.

something like that happened to my son this spring.. it was highschool, but was still similar.. report card came out, he had horrible grade in biology, he was at a loss to explain it, asked the teacher, he said he didn't turn in his project for one chapter, he (son) says.. but I DID.. I handed it right to you, the day we got back (not a day he had that class).. teacher says oh.. I remember you doing that.. so he was able to figure out where he'd put it and the situation improved considerably.

did the lab get lost completly, or did he just not record your grade...you can check with your lab partner; if he got a grade, then you should too.

Nope, my lab partner got a 0 on it too. I just hope that maybe the TA put it in the wrong pile and that they may find it.

Similar thing happened to me. Our stupid teacher (And YES, it WAS HER FAULT) did NOT have an updated system through out the semester. Sometimes she would request us to send her our HW's. And SOMETIMES she would email us back a confirmation, but not all the time. It was only when she felt like it.

Well, sure enough, BEFORE THE FINAL she hands out a spreadsheet, and it's full of 0's for EVERYONE. Like randomly all over the place. She tells us that it's OUR fault that we didn't come to her. BS!!! So, obviously everyone complains to the Administration. So, she resolves to tell us that if we have a copy of our homework, she'll take it. Now I totally understand that files might not always go through, you can't RELY on email. But she had NO system of letting us know, it was just retarded.

I got one of my two assignments put back on there at least.

First off, my teacher did seem to be pretty organized with his website and stuff. Most of the time, we got our lab grades within a week of turning them in....we just looked them up online.

Now I also have to add that I really didn't go to too many lectures. I made it to more than half, but I did ditch every once in a while...the reason being is that he had very good notes online that went over what he lectured on, so that seemed to suffice.

But anyways, after I had turned in the lab, for the next few weeks I kept looking online and seeing that I didn't have a score. I didn't have a 0, but the field was just blank. But what confused me was that he had numbers up for the class average and stats like that for lab 6. Now I know that it's partly my fault for not going to ask him why my grade was blank on the webpage, but I was kind of expecting that there would at least be a 0 written down. But again, I just probably didn't know that because he stated it on a day that I wasn't there.

So yes, that is my fault for not going to see him, but it is also their fault for losing my lab. I just hope something can be worked out

You should just drop out of college and become a garbage man. They don't have to worry about things like lab reports.

Don't pay attention to this guy. If you really want it, you will get it. Quitting is for losers.

Good idea. While you're at it, look in the trash for your lab report, hehe 😉
