i have the asus a7v133, and i just noticed that the small fan on the chipset is making a small whirring/rattling noise. is dust the culprit? i contacted asus, and they said to contact my reseller. but the reseller will probably take my mobo for a couple of weeks.

so: is the fan really necesarry? where can i get a new one? or just i just clean out my existing one.

thx

I couldn't get the chipset fan on my A7V133 to quiet down, even tried shimming the springs to no avail. So I pulled it and used AS Epoxy to secure an aftermarket chipset cooler and fan. That did the trick. You should probably think of something like that anyway since there really isn't a true finned heatsink on there - it's only a flat plate that provides mounting for the fan.

I alleviated the problem on mine by pulling the fan off and on the back side of the fan is a sticker. Pull the sticker up a bit and squeeze a drop of oil in there and put the sticker back. Can't hurt to try. Solved my video card fan's noise and my chipset's fan.
