My childhood dream came true... TONIGHT *tears*

Anyone that are into Dragonball and it's 42 volume saga knows that the actual original manga (comic in print) is much more gruesome, violent and satisfying than the watered-down TV episodes that are meant for kids.

I grew up with Dragonball you see. I remember 10+ years ago back in Korea when Dragonball was being released real-time by the author every two weeks. EVERYONE talked and anticipated what would happen in the upcoming installment which were mere 6-9 pages.

This grand saga that started in 1984 swept across Japan, Korea and China at the time and finally came to its epic ending after one full decade.

When the series ended in spring of '94, I dreamt of buying the whole complete collection but sadly I moved to US in that very year.

Now today after ANOTHER ten years, the US release of Dragonball is finally complete. I drove down to Borders to buy the whole series for about $250+ but guess what I realized when I came across a beautiful leather sofa in the store?

I could just read all 42 volumes in the store without buying them!!!

So I did. I was so nostalgic from old memories as I read through all the series. The sofa was very comfortable, the store was quiet and no one bothered me.

I spent 3.5 hours today and read the first 7 volumes until the store closed. And you know what I'll do tomorrow.... mwhahahha AHAHAHAHAH!!

hahaha.....thats actually pretty funny....but only on this forum. In real life I'm sure its an annoyance....odd.

They used to give a sh*t, until they realized that having comfy chairs and coffee shops in-house was the only way they can compete with Amazon.

lol, it's funny how manga and anime are the opposite when they come over here. dvd prices are 1/2 of what they are in japan, and manga prices are double what they are in japan. magic.

when i first got a hold of the scanslations of dragonball a few years ago, i spent pretty much the whole day infront of the computer reading it all in one sitting. ouch. 🙁🙂

also, you should get someone to buy the manga used for you, used books store would have each volume for 100yen/$1. me and my brother were going to buy 19 volumes of yugioh manga yesterday, but we decided to hold off for now.

Your childhood must have really sucked.

Not really. Animation/Manga are very influential in asia. It's like a huge part of their culture. I mean it when EVERYONE was into it back in the days. A close example here would be like Star Wars but more severe

Thats cool dude. I'm a big fan of anime and DB/Z/GT also 😀

You sir give a whole new meaning to the word CHEAP!

KUDOS!

I never got into the manga because it was too expensive for me and I didn't know anyone who had it. And I can't really read Japanese well... or Chinese. 🙁

Borders and Barnes and Noble kick ass in this regard.

Funny you mention this. I was in B&N last week and noticed a significant decrease in the number of big cumfy chairs in the store. I only saw two. Maybe they are trying to prevent loosing $$$ by people using the book store as a library.

OK, so you've read them. Big deal. I mean, I'm happy for you and all....but that is the same thing as me saying:

OMG!!! Today, I SAW A PORSCHE!! It was stopped at a red light in the other lane, going the other way...but I saw it. It was red!!!

Not quite the same thing as actually OWNING it, no?
