My Check Is In The Mail!

Last year, prompted by a $50 bonus and a lower electric rate for 3 months, I switched energy providers from Peco to NRG. After their promotional rate expired, actually months after as I forgot, I switched back.

A month or so ago, I got a letter from them offering me the same deal again. It was addressed to me and was incredibly specific, a double-sided page of single-spaced text, with no mention that I wasn't eligible. It sat around for awhile, I came across it again, and decided to take them up on it. The CSR said I wasn't eligible. Then WHY was I specifically sent this letter? I asked to speak to a supervisor. Surprise! None was available. She said she'd have one call me back. Yeah, suuuuure.

This morning, a week or so later, a supervisor actually did. He repeated that I was ineligible. I asked where I could see that in writing. He said I was so told over the phone when I first signed up. I asked again if he just send me that in writing, and thanked him for his time. Again, I didn't expect him to follow through.

But he did, with a totally unexpected bonus! I got this e-mail:

"Your previous account was enrolled on August 3, 2018 and upon enrollment you were read a disclosure over the phone. Within that disclosure was the statement “Please keep in mind as you were previously a customer of ours and had an active account that received an enrollment bonus and are re-enrolling, you will not be eligible to receive an additional bonus, but you will receive the ongoing rewards.”

We understand your frustration in receiving a promotion in the mail offering an enrollment bonus that you are ineligible for and have issued you a $25 check for the inconvenience. You can expect to receive this check in 7-10 business days. Your account is currently inactive, but if you are interested in reenrolling with us, please contact us at 855-500-8703."

America! What a country! 😛

^ Things retired people do.

Next up is sitting down to calculate an hourly rate and draft a service order charged to NRG for his time spent in calling them to deal with the situation of being invited to an ineligible offer.

I mean, I guess that's what one could consider the $25 bucks in payment for. One might surmise that this has become standard practice to jump ahead of things because it is already known that this is what retired people do. 😀

Got a $39 check in the mail today. Our bankrupt power company has been feeing us for the cost of a new nuclear plant for the last 10 years or so. The plant hasn't been build and the company sold to someone else. Wow, $39....probably paid them $500.
