I went to sleep last night and my phone said AT&T on it's screen. This morning it now says CINGULAR. I know they merged, but wasn't that a while ago, why does it change now? Anyone know if this possibly changes how good my service is? Thanks

Mine changes back and forth depending on where I am in Chicago. Doesn't appear to make much difference yet.

It does that all the time for me even before the merger. It means your signal was coming from a Cingular tower.

My does switches whenever one of the towers is inaccessible. What sucks, if both towers are within range it picks AT&T, which sucks since Singular has much better reception.

That's the tower you're picking up... they probably opened the Cingular for you and it just happened to be closer to you than the AT&T one

Why does it change now? I know that there is usually rain in winter, but why did it happen last week? What kind of question is that?

Mine says AT&T / Cingular....

Before it got broken I had an Nokia 3200 & I blocked automatic SIM card changes via an option in the menu. The phone kept asking if I wanted to allow a write to the SIM - eventually I agreed and got the AT&T / Cingular wording. This was about a month ago.

My experience so far is that Cingular doesn't have nearly as good of plans as AT&T - on top of less minutes, I lose my corporate discount. I needed another phone and they wanted me to change to a Cingular plan before they'd sell one.....

Got one somewhere else and unlocked it.....hehehehe

I turned the alpha tag off on my phone, so it always displays the tower I'm on (AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile), instead of "Cingular" or "Cingular Extend".
