My celing fan burned up!

Shawn

Lifer
There was a loud popping sound and it just stopped working. I tried flipping the switch on the top and it came back on so I was like oh cool. But now I'm stuck w/ the opposite direction. Well I was tired and left it on and took a nap. I was awakened by a several loud popping sounds this time followed by some nice fireworks I could see through the little vents in my fan. Now my room smells really bad........ I'm probably lucky I didn't set the house on fire tho. Time for a new fan I guess........

Maybe constant vibration from the motor in the ceiling fan caused one of the wirenuts to come loose and then, eventually, another one to come loose, and it shorted out... It's possible that it's easily repairable.
I've had to install a couple of ceiling fans (walmart, kmart brands) that had loose wire nuts in them (fixed before installing of course).

Better than my friend's luck - was vacumming before he moved out of his friends house and sparks shot out of the wall, next thing you know the house is in ashes!

why the hell was your fan on? It is freaking so cold!

Warm air rises... ceiling fan should be set on low to blow downward in the winter.
