My Celeron II 566 overclocking experience

I just got my Celeron II 566 mhz. I am running it on an Asus Slocket on an Asus P2B-F moterboard.
I started up at default 1.5volt, 566 mhz. It worked like a charm. Tried some Counter-strike and it worked.
Then it was time to see what this baby can do, upped the fsb to 100 posted but did not boot into windows. Raised the voltage to 1.6 and here I am. Running 850 mhz, 1.6 voltage.
My Counter-Strike works, RC5 works, did a benchmark a minute ago worked very well compared to my old PII300 :)

But here is the beef, my ICQ does not work! *LOL* Whenever I try to startup icq, icq just freezez on me and I have to stop the process. I am running W2K Pro, the AGP ratio is 2/3 and my ram is PC133. Guess ICQ does not like to be overclocked :)

Will try to go higher, but needed to make sure 850 would work.

Just tried 1.75 still no luck with ICQ. Maybe I should try to reinstall my OS, everything else but icq works just fine.

Since you didn't mention it in your original post. Have you tried reinstalling icq? Probably just a corrupted icq installation??

Just uninstalled and installed it again, it lets me register my uin again but crashes after that. My icq worked perfectly at 566 mhz but then I tried a really high fsb in softfsb and my computer hang. Guess my icq got "fucked" up during the crash.

Ok, Just reinstalled windows 2000 and my ICQ works again. Actually everything works :)

Now its time to see what this baby can do. How high can I go with the voltage? I am using the default fan for the Celeron II.

uhmmm, you don't Want to see how high the voltage can go man... you want to see how Low it can run stable at. Overclocking is not what really kills a CPU, it's over voltaging (is that a word? hehe) it that kills it.
If it runs stable at 1.6 volts, leave it.

I wonder what the C600@900 probability is? THinking about building a system for my mom for Christmas.. She's using a poor old P233@266 (75 bus)..

Diesel, pop an Alpha on the chip, crank the voltage to 1.75 (or thereabouts) and try for 952.

Diesel21, glad to hear you snagged a CPU that worked. Who sold it to you? Retail?

Whitedog, is your mom really chomping at the bit for more CPU power? I bet if you asked her, she'd rather spend the $100 on some kind of "mom" thing. :)

Ornery:
I bought it through some online store in Denmark, did'nt know how high it would go, but I took my chances :)

Currently it is running 1.6 volt, 850 mhz and cracking RC5 keys. I tried upping the voltage to 1.8 then it did 892 mhz just fine, but when I tried 935 mhz it crashed. I could probably go 892mhz@1,65-1,75 volt. But for now 850@1.6volt will do :)

Anyone knows what is safe with the default fan?
